Hi,

How many of you NES SMB2J fans have ever attempted to undertake reprogramming this FDS version of the game's ROM contents so that the starting addresses are in the $8000s (0x0010s)?

I would also like to see you reprogram the All Night Nippon SMB's ROM contents to start in the $8000s (0x0010s) as well.

Thank you,

Ben

Aren't there already multiple cart versions of SMB2j?  What exactly are you trying to do?

There is one out there, but as with the original FDS version, its CPU ROM address bank starts in the $6000s. The Game Genie accessory only works with games whose CPU ROM banks start in the $8000s, so that is why I am trying to see a reprogrammed SMB2J whose CPU ROM banks start in the $8000s. Sorry if I sound like a broken record here...

You might as well just reprogram the game yourself. Tongue

(you'd have to find and change every ROM reference in the game. I'm not sure if SMB2j uses more than 32KB of program ROM (including the FDS BIOS), but if it does (likely), you'd also need to hack the mapper.
Because the FDS uses address $6000-DFFF for disk RAM and $E000-FFFF for the BIOS, that is why the pirate carts use $6000-FFFF.

Suppose we try that CHR-ROM thing like we did when RHDN members frantik and Karatorian ported Super Mario Bros. Special for NES?

Seems kind of silly to restructure a ROM just to make GG codes.  Why not just hack the cartridge version to make the desired "codes" permanent?

Hell, emulators let you edit bits of the game directly via GG codes, so why not use that?
