Ryoko (I know there's some anime in this name... I kinda forget), Goku (Dragon Ball Z), Krillin (Dragon Ball Z again...), Pentarou (Another Konami game...), etc...

I would consider that, except many of them won't fit anymore using English script.  Hacking in more space for the name variables is far beyond my abilities...

I probably won't get much done this week while I get settled back in at work after my vacation, but I'm still hoping to get a patch out soon.  I keep on finding "just one more thing" I want to fix up, but that could go on forever, so I should just bite the bullet and get an alpha version out already.  However, I got myself sidetracked a bit by finally testing out pointer hacking, and I have to make sure my overhaul of the names and profiles works okay.

One thing that still annoys me a lot is I found the weekend/holiday phrase for "What should I do today?" in the main first script bank (along with all the little minor holidays), but NOT the equally used "What should I do starting tomorrow?" used for weekdays.   Tongue

Well, I don’t mean to be a real stinker, but the major problem the original project ran into was finding the sheer space they needed to do the hack. Space on the screen. Space on the ROM. Space you’ll be feeling the squeeze for soon enough. If you don’t have a plan for getting that space, you should start planning before you hit a brick wall.

This is what happens when Konami vises the PSX version of a PCE-CD game into an SNES cart. Konami is Japanese for “too crazy, even for us”. Cheesy

True that. Right now almost all the work I've done is in just one memory bank, where most of the things are uncompressed. Once I actually get ALL the uncompressed stuff done, I'm going to start trying to figure out how I should go about compressing things in the rest of the script.  For now, my only plan is to hope I can work those compressed tiles and phrases as best I can, maybe shuffle some more pointers around... I have managed to save a fair amount of space with pointers in this first script bank, allowing me to word things less awkwardly than I did in my first drafts.

I'm also going to try building up the most important structural parts of the game first, like any missing major menu choices, Valentine's Day, Christmas, birthdays, etc. That way if I need to start getting really dodgy on the translation later, it'll hopefully be reserved for less common areas of the game...  Tongue

But now for some good news!

I've made my first patch!  Well... I hope it works on other people's computers okay, anyway... let me know if it's screwed up..   "";) Here's the link:

I stayed up late trying to get this done already, so I'll write up some notes for it once I have time again.  The most important thing though, is the movie and music parts of the Memorial Spot magazine are missing for now. Once I started messing with the pointers for the rest of the magazine, the music and movies kept screwing everything up till I blanked them out to do one thing at a time. I'll get to them later since they'll take a lot more work to translate.

Oh, and the nicknames, for now I just left in some random anime and other names that I had put in when I first found where they were located, but I'll change them around later too.   Tongue
