I'm in the process of completing a few new projects/documents (nothing earth shattering, or even dirt clod vibrating) and also updating/polishing several old translations. Recently, I've heard from a couple of different hackers that they learned a lot from my doc 'The Definitive Guide to ROM Hacking for Complete Beginners', so I started looking through it and have decided it's time for an update.

Some questions are obviously outdated (for instance, the last update to the doc was prior to the initial release of Tile Molester) but there are likely other areas that aren't so obvious but could use improvement. I would appreciate if some of you could take a look at the doc and suggest any changes/additions you feel are warranted. (Let's skip the Resources section for the moment, I realize that over 90% of the sites in the list are dead now, but I want to get the rest of the information up-to-date before I start link collecting.)

Is it bad that when I was a newbie I read that document, but over time I forgot about it, and just now realized you're that InVerse? >.>

Some people would say that it's to my benefit that people forget that I'm that InVerse.

Only people who know about your past (assuming that's what you're referring to). All I know is that you wrote some decent hacking docs back in the day. =D

Well, hopefully, the "back in the day" part will be removed soon. I've got a document about what relative searching is (as opposed to just how to do it) 95% complete and as soon as I clear up a few projects that are lingering in the ~90% range of completion, I'm going to focus on the document I started writing that documents every step (with pictures) of the process I'm undergoing to translate Hammerin' Harry 2. If it works out the way I think it will, it should serve as the ultimate newbie guide, covering everything from selecting your project to releasing the patch.

Perhaps focusing less on SNES and more on ROM hacking in general would be good. I read this when I was a newbie and had some difficulty applying it to other systems (but not too much).

I assume you mean NES, not SNES? (I've yet to hack a SNES game myself.) There's a lot more information about non-NES systems now than there was a few years ago, so the FAQ will definitely reflect that.
