I was wondering if anyone knew how to rip images from Sega Saturn games, Phantasy Star Collection specifically.

I know that the game has an image viewer that I can just take screen shots of but when I try to take screen shots in an emulator the results are less than desirable...

The images are somewhat dark and blurry.

So I opened the file with ISOBuster, and this is what it contains

I would assume the ART.BIN or the ART.OVR is where the illustrations are located but how can I extract them?

*Edit - the only thing I could fine on OVR files is ".ovr - overlay file (part of program to be loaded when needed)" I can't find a program that allows me to view the contents of the file.

Any help would be appreciated.

IIRC the *.ovr files with that description were used in DOS times to build programs out of 64 KB blocks. They were later obsoleted by DOS extenders.

Most likely not related to your *.ovr files.

Thank you for the response and clarification.

Unfortunately I still haven't been able to find a tool to assist in the extracting these images.    :'(

Are you putting out the original resolution there with no addtional effects? Usually I associate a darker, blurier image with scanlines and filtering.

I have that, I think those pics are tif files in one of the subdirectories.

The resolution on my computer is set to 1024 by 768 (color quality highest (32 bit))

As for the emulator, I left it in it’s default resolution and I didn’t add scanlines or any other additional effects.

Yeah that’s what I thought at first too but when I open the subdirectories I get a bunch of .ADP files with some .Bin files (see pics below)

If I try to click on the .ADP it opens Microsoft Access and give me this error…

Any ideas on what my next step should be?

Hex editor, I'd say.

I haven't really used a hex editor before but and I may not be doing it correctly. I

I downloaded Winhex
Opened a couple of the bin files
Clicked on Tools > Disk Tools > File recovery by type
I selected JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and BMP files to be extracted to a seperate directory

But I got an error

Is it normally an easy process to extract images with a hex editor?

I meant that you'll have to manually reverse-engineer how the game stores its resources.
It probably won't be in one of the standard formats like those you listed.

I think at this point, that is sounds a little out of my league, but I'll do some research and see how far I get. Thank you for the help!

I have this feeling that they are more than likely in some sort of 8bpp linear format, which means you'll also have to find the palette. Unless the emulator has debugging features, it's going to be quite the bitch to find
