Greetings, fair folk of romhacking.net!

I have been a fan of Square games for many years, and in particular Chrono Trigger.  I am also quite fond of modifying and fiddling around with game data in general, so when I recently discovered that there was a way to make modifications to games such as these, I was quite amazed, and very eager to start tweaking.

Now, as I said already, Chrono Trigger is one of my favourite games of all times, but there are several things that bother me about it. The game is horribly easy, and status effects are rarely used by the enemies in the game, and so on.

In any case, my questions to the more experienced modders out there would be:

1. Is there a way to modifiy game algorithms and in-game formulas? I am specifically thinking of spell damage formulas in this case.

2. Is there a way to define which character gets which abilities? I would very much like to swap Magus's dark mist with his geyser spell that the CPU controlled version use for instance.

3. And to add special attacks and control the scripts of monsters.

4. Are there any tutorial documents or the like on how to edit the different offsets etc.. without the use of an editor with a GUI?

I apologize for probably asking something that has been asked a thousand times, and I am expecting to recieve some kind of "use the search function"-flame, but I have not quite been able to find the answers which I seek.

Of course, but you have to find where that data is located.

Sure, you could, if you figure out the location of said data.

Probably, but that usually is a bit more complex. It helps when a tool for editing battle scripts exists.

Start here: http://www.romhacking.net/start/ - it is on the sidebar, which apparently was ignored/missed.

Must still have a few bugs, wait for the 2.1 "Holier than Thou" bug-fix...
