I was wondering if anyone would like to translate this game. For those of you who don't already know, this is an unlicensed port of Resident Evil to the NES. It seems like a pretty interesting game, but you cant get very far in it because all the text is in Chinese. You can get the ROM at DGEmu.com. You might ask "Why go through all the effort?", but worse games have been translated before...
And Yes, I would translate it myself, but I don't know Chinese.

This game has been on my list of projects I'd like to take on for several years now but one that I've never actually got started on besides looking at it in Tile Layer Pro. One of those reasons is that it doesn't run properly in FCEU. Last I knew, it only works correctly in VirtuaNES, but I haven't tested it in 4 years or so. (Also, according to Cowering, at least, the only known copy of the game is a bad dump.)

Yeah, the copy I had would freeze after the first battle, or so.
Plus, I'd have to know Chinese (or find someone relatively skilled in Chinese) just to build the table. >.>

Try your local Chinese restaurant. (No, seriously, I spoke to one of the waitresses their about possibly translating a game script. I'm supposed to bring her an example to consider. I already have a Chinese language project, however, and I'm pretty sure her English will require copious amounts of editing.)

Eh, I'm not that involved in my local Chinese restaurant. Plus, I've got plenty to work on.
I'd love to see this get translated myself, but it'd probably be pretty crappy anyway. >.>

Does anyone actually know how deep of a game it is, or has it crashed on the few who actually tried playing it (myself included)?

Not too long ago, I popped it into Virtua NES and got to the first battle (same place as in the original RE) without any freezing. I couldn't figure out the battle system, but I didn't try very hard, either. From what I recall, it worked okay in VirtuaNES. The only other emulator I recall testing it in is FCE Ultra, in which it freezes before you gain control of the character.

I tested it in FCE Ultra, and after the first battle, it froze.
The battle system is just like that of RE:Gaiden. You have to time your hits/shots by hitting A when the moving bar is in the middle. Pretty stupid, actually. >.>

Got through the first battle this time without a problem. I ran out of bullets the first time and apparently didn't think to hit start to switch to the knife. The game is bug ridden, but it's still pretty damn cool that someone cloned the original Resident Evil to NES and actually improved the play control. It makes me wish Grand Theftendo had actually come to fruition.

To play NES games like this, I use SMYNES ver. 1.15 and ver. 1.20 and it doesn't freeze on me. So um, I found the 1.20 emulator here. incase anyone wants to take a quick look. ^^'

SMY? The pay emulator? With a free demo only works for like six months after it was last updated? Which was many years ago?
(I do recall the SMY guy released several NES ROMs, which he encrypted to only work on SMYNES. I don't think BioHazard was one of them, but I thought I'd bring it up)

So, is anyone actually willing to translate this (and maybe fix some of the crashing bugs in the process)?

I've been living in China for close to two years now.
If you wish to post screenshots, I'll translate them when I have the time.
I don't want to give my word that I will translate the whole thing. Just post screenshots and I'll see what I can do.

Have you tried this version of FCEultra? http://cah4e3.shedevr.org.ru/fceultra.phpIt's been heavily modified to work with all those obscure pirate ROMs.

*downloads* If it works, I may do at least a preliminary hack, translating the menus to the best of my ability. Though, the font is 16x16, so I'd have to either use HUGE characters or downgrade it to an 8x16/8x8 font. So don't count on it. ~DS
