Well, my track record's not very long, but PoPoLoCrois fans would argue that it's kinda famous. Wink I'm a huge Falcom fan myself, so I wouldn't object in the slightest to helping you guys out with a Legend of Xanadu translation. Hell, if you can hack the game and send the script my way, I'll translate it right then and there! Doesn't matter if I'm also in the middle of Xanadu Next at the time. (:

I just want to translate again! I'm no longer using Japanese as part of my job, so I want to do everything I can not to let my knowledge of the language slip away...

In that case, I'm sure we (as in the royal we) have thirty or so scripts that can keep you on your toes!

Yeah, I probably should've qualified that statement a bit. (: I'm actually NOT willing to just translate anything. If it's not something that I am SPECIFICALLY INTERESTED IN, there's no way you'll be able to get me to translate it. I might be coerced into STARTING a translation, but my interest will wane, and when that happens, it's all over. (:

So yeah... amended statement: I just want to translate something I like!

Wondering how difficult a script extract might be, I took a look at the PC Engine Legend of Xanadu (the first) last night.

- Found the basic encoding system of 1-byte kana lookups, with 2-byte SJIS

- Found that the CD storage does not directly correspond to where it lives in memory, with extra byte sequences interspersed from time to time; this is odd, and suggests there is some sort of nonstandard block loader

- Found that the storage in memory doesn't exactly correspond with what's shown on screen, with some extra bytes here and there.  This suggests another layer of block loading (since it doesn't appear to be a compression - it is larger rather than smaller).

- There appears to be quite a lot of text

Don't expect a script dump too soon.  Looks non-trivial.
I made a lot more progress with the script extract of Tengai Makyo Ziria last night.

Quick update: I believe I found someone to help with this (Xanadu Next, not Legend of Xanadu), and he seems like he's pretty damn good at what he does. No idea how quickly this will progress, but one thing's clear: the project is well on its way to moving forward. Wink

Be there an update, now that several months have passed? Do you need any additional assistance or whatnot?

I've managed to extract the text and modify it and put it back and everything works. If you need any help, just let me know and I'll send you the texts
