There's a beta version of Tile Molester floating around the net (well tmspec.xml or something like that) that will allow you to load Windows Palettes (the kind that VBA saves) I just load the palette in Tile Molester and do a Paste From to insert graphics. Works perfectly. Smiley

Do you need the original tilemap too? I think it's compressed, but I could get it.

Yeah, I need the original tilemap. I really suspect it's using more than two 16 color sub palettes (a total of four 16 color sub palettes). If I knew where the tilemap data was in the savestate (and the whole sixteen 16color palettes), I could extract it.

Edit: I found the whole palette set in the savestate, gonna write a converter to ACT format for PS.

In this no$GBA savestate it's at address 57CDE:

I'm pretty sure it really uses only two palettes.

Edit: I'm indeed dumb. It does use 4 palettes. One of them (BGP2) is shared with a part of the Dragon Quest logo (on another layer).

Yeah, I just converted the 256 color palette block to ACT format and it does indeed use 4 palettes( # 0,1,2, and 4). Shouldn't be much of a problem to correct the tilemap. Do you want the ACT pal file I made? You can use it to force Photoshop to put the colors incorrect order(there converted in the same order as the original).

complementing about Spikeman was saying...

there's a way to use exported palettes from Visualboy Advance, and import it to Tile Layer Pro, or Tile Molester.

in VBA, you can export palette from two formats: .PAL and .ACT

if you export to .PAL, you can use PaletteEdGBA (get it here: http://www.romhacking.net/utils/417/) and convert this .PAL to palette formats perfectly accepted in Tile Layer Pro. Still isn't compatible for Tile Molester, though...

if you export to .ACT, there's a way to make TM read it by editting tmspec.xml, as Spikeman said above. you can find a tutorial about it here: http://www.playeradvance.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3872.
the only problem is that it's in french. it's made by YoBoy, a french romhacker.

Here's the tmspec.xml that I use: http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/11/27/428255/tmspec.xml

This will allow Tile Molester to load .PAL (Windows Palettes) and Tile Layer Pro palettes. Smiley

great. with your .XML file, not only users will be able to load .PAL files exported from VBA, but even .TPL palettes from Tile Layer Pro. it'll surely be useful.

anyway, I'll post mine. Isn't as good as this one from Spikeman, but it can load Adobe Color Palettes (.ACT), that can be extracted from Visualboy Advance too. you can perfectly load ACT palettes in programs like Adobe Photoshop for a better editting and viewing of your editted graphics.

http://thesolidone.free-web-hosting.biz/tmspec.xml

besides, users can make modifications in those XML files and make its own too this way, including most extra features they can find.
