Hey there.

About a year ago, I started on a Spanish translation of Chrono Trigger. I expected to have finished it sometime this year, but as of right now, it's only at about 50%. The reasons for that are varied, like the fact that I lost the files for a while due to some computer problems, I had a surgical procedure, I was (unsuccesfully) looking for a teaching job, etc.

The point is, the translation is in progress, so hopefully it will see release some time during 2008.

Have a Happy New Year!

*applauds*

Are you translating it from the English version, the original Japanese, or (ideally) a mix of both?

This'll be sweet, now I really gotta brush up on my Spanish (Mind ya's, I'm half Dominican and half Puerto Rican) I always get grilled by my family members for not talking mostly in Spanish.

I'm doing it from the English version, and I'm using an utility I got from here to help me out.    Grin

The thing is, when I started it, I used some words that I thought were funny to add some humor to the game, and I also tried to establish a more defined personality for each character. Then I realized that a lot of people probably wouldn't get it (because of the different slang terms) or like it, but I don't feel like going back and changing everything I've done . . .  The essence of the original dialogue is the same, though, so there's no problem about that.

Yeah, hopefully people who want to learn Spanish find this useful. I'll try to work on it more often so that I can release it some time soon. I was shooting for a June release, but it's gonna depend on how things go for me around here. It might be earlier, it might be much later . . .

It's good to see that someone has in the works a Spanish translation for this great game, not a lot of Spanish translations are released nowadays.

I hope to see an early release of this patch, and I'm sure that the translation will be great. Thanks your effort, amigo

I wonder if it would be possible or viable to put both the original text and the translated text in the game.

I wonder if people could use that as a way to learn a new language.

It would be cool to have both texts in a game, but I don't know if that's possible. I would try to do it if I had any idea how, but my knowledge is very limited . . .  Undecided\

I have a few games translated into French, which is a language I want to learn, and a lot of times I get the basic idea. Sometimes, I am completely lost, though, so it would help to have an English or Spanish text to go along with it.

At any rate, you might find game scripts on the internet. I have stumbled into a few of those every now and then, so you might try to find them and read them as you play the game in a different language.
