I did a quick check and I didn't find any documents that explain pallette or text hacking in genesis. And as far as I know of there is no emulator with a PPU viewer like FCEUXD for genesis either. I was wanting to change some text in Ultimate Mortal Kombat Trilogy. I see that some of the text is changable just by looking in a hex editor. But what I wanted to change was one of the storyline bios and that is not viewable. I think if there was a PPU viewer then finding the table for that would be easy. But without it I'm pretty lost. Anyone got any experience in these situations?

Have you tried relative searching for the text you want to change? Relative searching works the same regardless of system, as long as the text in question isn't compressed. And I don't know if there are any more modern emulators in which you can display PPU memory, but Genecyst will do so if you can get it running.

you mean relative searching in the hex editor? unfortunately genecyst seems to be for DOS, so I can't use that.

You could if you can run DOSBox.

With a hex editor or with a relative search utility, it's all the same. Personally, I use Translhextion for relative searching (but NOT for hex editing!)

I tried the transhelxion relative searching last night and came up with nothing. I suppose that means that the text is compressed. That really sucks.

If you have some hacking or coding experience, or are really really driven, PM me and I'll explain to you how I find things in genesis ROMs.
