Hello,
this is my first ever message on this board. It's been a long time since I wanted to participate in a translation project alone or with a group. It's great to share with other games you like by making them more accessible, and it's good for my japanese knowledge to train it from time to time.
I think I found a good game to start : RAMPART on the nes
If you dont know rampart, imagine a puzzle/shooting/strategy game mix. Some kind of tetris meet worms meet warcraft. All the version of the game are based on the atari arcade version. There is only 1 exception to my knowledge, it's the japanese NES version, with different worlds, japanese anime style graphics, etc. And that's the reason why I think it's interesting to translate it.
The game seem light on text, and it's only hiragana and katakana. So the translation of all the text should not take too long. The only problem for me now, it's the extraction of the text out of the rom, and then putting the translated text back in. I have minimal hacking knowledge (the only thing I have hack is dos and saves files).
So I'm looking For someone who could be interested in this project and in a first time hack the text out of the game for me to be able to translate it completely.

So let me get this straight. You're a translator and you're looking for a hacker? If the text isn't above your current ability, I'd be more than happy to take a look. That's not me saying I'll *do* it, it's me saying I'll look into it and consider it.
But yeah, Rampart's fun. This could be cool.

I'll wait for your answer. I know that translating roms text is more than just handling MS Word files and it can be sometime very complicated (I heard about compressed text and font problems). If your answer is negative it's no problem.

To be honest, I can't jump on this until tomorrow at absolute earliest. I'm working all day today. So, well, just don't expect an immediate answer :/

Made a table of the alphabet and japanese symbols. A nightmare (for my first try at an hack) since some hiragana and katakana were removed, and some were placed in the wrong order. And the game use different table for different part of the game.
but now everything is clear. I dumped my first part of the text : all the red riding hood levels. then, translation, and then, inserting it back.... if I can...

Okay, you've got me interested. What the hell is the difference between the Japanese and American versions of Rampart? Red Riding Hood levels?

The Japanese version has a practice mode and three campaign modes. Each campaign has multiple levels with varying objectives (surround this object, kill all the enemies/survive n number of rounds, occupy x percent of the land). Once you beat a level, you get a cutscene and a password. The NES one is pretty much an arcade port.

Okay, you've got me interested. What the hell is the difference between the Japanese and American versions of Rampart? Red Riding Hood levels?
Konami made the Famicom version, which means it's a helluva lot nicer sounding and looking.
