As my first post on these boards, I thought I would offer the community a chance to contribute ideas to the Super Mario RPG editor being created by me and Giangurgolo.
Are there any great features you've seen in an editor that you wished was in another? Any features that you would put in an editor if you were making one? in All ideas and input are welcome. The more the better of course.
For those wondering, the editor is quite far along. I may be posting some screenshots of it tomorrow if people are interested in seeing them.
So, what ya got?

You haven't stated anything about what it's capable of, so requesting features is rather odd. But as long as we're at it: - Clean the slate - Wipe out all known data, turn it into all 0's (handy for maps or just large chunks of data).
- If there's a map editor - something that will show what you would see as you play it (I label it "In-game viewing area).
I'll probably think of more later, depending on what you say this is capable of or not.

Yup, it current does edit levels with an "in-game" view. It also can zero out all level data, level maps, and tilesets for the current level, or for all levels.
Another couple cool features it has, it can
- Export images of All levels or just the current one. - Export/Import level data for all/current
A feature that I am considering, perhaps for a later update would be importing raw bitmaps as tilesets.
Another feature might be an ex-graphics type system similar to what Lunar Magic has.
That said, you can assume it has all basic functions an editor would have.

Seems my idea is catching on eh? *edit* Add a bit more info in the Readme. You don't even tell the users that they need to have the DOTNET framework installed--AND what version of it. Do you need a ROM with a header? Does it work with the Japanese or Euro ROM as well? For feature suggestions how about: -Edit secret treasure box locations -Edit monster locations on maps -Edit monster formations -Script editor -Event editor -Graphic import/export tool for monsters/characters/world/areas/title screen -Edit window sizes/positions

It doesnt currently have remove ALL data functionality. That doesnt make sense for things like stats, but it has been included where ever it would make sense, like levels, maps, ect.
Just so people here know, it will require .NET 2.0. I dont think that is an unreasonable requirement these days. It may be a problem for some who use illegal versions of windows, but those people can find a way around it im sure.
JCE3000GT, those are some good feature recommendations, thanks.
-Edit secret treasure box locations - This is not currently in it, but it will definitely be. I hadnt considered it yet. Love it. -Edit monster locations on maps - Already partially complete -Edit monster formations - Same as above -Script editor - Already 100% complete. It dynamically allocates space in the rom, and also uses expanded sections to increase the amount of dialogue you can have. It also visibly updates the amount of space left in real time. -Event editor - There is a event editor. It might not be fully functional in the initial release, but it is in the works. -Graphic import/export tool for monsters/characters/world/areas/title screen - Also great ideas, will have to consider them for the initial release, or an update -Edit window sizes/positions - The main editing window currently is the only window that can be increased in size. Property tabs and such can be hidden in order to gain more window space.
Ill be posting screenshots of the editor in action shortly.

Feature suggestion from KungFuFurby, if possible:
- Music Editor
I'm not requesting sample modification at the time; that would be tricky to do.

I have considered a music editor, but they more often than not go untouched. I also can see it being a lot of work. Ill take it under advisement though. If it does happen, it will probably be in an update.

I knew that was coming. You're currently doing the graphical stuff, which is fine by me.

Editor looks top notch, great job. Oh, and by windows sizes I meantin-game window sizes and positions. I'm highly interested in seeing this editor complete someday. The more complete editors for RPGs out there the better. Saves people from having to use an inferior rubbish program like RPGMaker. I have considered a music editor, but they more often than not go untouched. I also can see it being a lot of work. Ill take it under advisement though. If it does happen, it will probably be in an update.
Since I seem to be the resident SPC expert by some on other rom hacking forums if I have the time someday I'd like to decipher SMRPG's SPC core. Right now I'm busy with some other Square games as it is. But a music editor would definatley a great idea.

If someone is willing to put in the work to figure out how the music and sound engine works im sure we can integrate it into the editor without much fuss. I dont think it would be that complicated to actually implement once its all documented.
Right now, the editor is still heavily in development. While it could be released in a couple weeks and im sure it would be hailed as an amazing editor, I want it to be complete. Its very frustrating to hack a game, and not be able to do what I want.
