Hi guys.  Smiley

I'm working hard to develop a new video game website dedicated to the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, and am wanting to have (optional) 'background music' playable if the user so desires. I would really like to use the native SNES .spc format due to high availability & how great it sounds for such a small file size. I've done hours of searching here and elsewhere for ways to embed or stream SPC music in a web-accessible platform, but haven't turned up anything workable.

Do any brilliant minds here have a possible solution?

Thanks!

Well, there's a plugin for MODs... or somebody writes an SPC player in Java or Flash (?).

There was an SPC plugin for IE.  I don't remember the name of it, but I got it off Zophar's a long time ago

*looks*

ah...  here it is.  I don't know if those links are still good though

Thanks for the guidance guys, and Disch- much appreciated! I checked out ZD (as I always do!), but I had missed the fact that ZDSPC featured an IE plugin. This is just what I was looking for, as I'm sure you know. Of course I'm probably going to run into lots of compatibility issues if this is an old plugin (with the modern IE, other browsers etc.), but this is certainly a step in the right direction.

Cheers!

If anyone knows of other possible solutions, I'd be very grateful. Something along the lines of a Flash alternative would probably be the most suitable, if it's at all possible. At any rate, I'll report back once I've ascertained the viability of the ZDSPC plugin as per my project's needs.

You can always export the file to a more common sound format, like WAV/MP3. That way, more people can hear your SNES music that you put up on the web. It beats people not being able to listen to it because they don't have the plugin.

Example: I don't have the plugin because I am a PPC Mac user.

Yeah, accessibility is a huge issue that I will certainly be focussing on. This is one of the main reasons a Flash solution would be great. Aside from format accessibility, another issue is bandwidth... and MP3 streaming is rather taxing in comparison to loading an SPC, of course! I know this is hardly an issue for many users, but I have a high awareness of bandwidth related frustrations, as I am still on dial-up... I must be one of the last dial-up users on Earth.
