Heya People, I have just joined and I am completely new to all of this...
I have a ROM of Pokemon Red (.gb) anyway i would like to do something to it liker add new moves, edit / create new Pokemon and things like that I have NO programming experience whatsover, If there is anyone who could tell me exactly what programs to use, and if they could direct me to a walkthru on creation or if someone here could be a mentor/ teacher that would be good.

First and foremost, I would be interested in assisting you with this ROM hack on one condition.

Put Pokemon Red DOWN.

Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow were and are programing nightmares with absolutely no organization in them whatsoever. The first pokemon registered in the game is Electrode, the first item being Hyper or something like that. My suggestion to you is to step back and take a look at what it is you want to do, write it out and work on it long and hard on paper before going to your ROMs. Secondly, use a FireRed or LeafGreen hack, as they are a great deal easier to program. Not to mention, for your sake? The games have tools to hack with so you're not just furiously hexing your eyes out, praying that any of this doesn't make your ROM head for the window.

Furthermore, in reference to Pokemon Red, from what I've understood by several folks, the game lacks the room or left over stuff to make new pokemon or moves.

As for basics?

Move Name for great justice. You know what you doing, take off every Name!

Might want to play though the ROM first, though. Make sure it floats your boat. For the most part, it should. It's the same game, down to the letter, except for the ending.

It's the same for everyone. Once you get used to the world around you a bit better, you'll learn the jargon. For now, &63E2 means nothing to you.

Yes , to make a good hack you need to be really familiar with the game you are hacking, and you need to be prepared to run into some difficulties , because that will happen sooner or later.

And one very important thing to keep in Mind is to:

Never give up , and to keep trying.

Don't feel bad about asking for help either. After you play through FireRed, contact me. I'd be happy to help you do anything you have in mind. Absolutely happy to.
