Hi everyone.  I'm new to translation patching and I've recently heard good things about this game.  However, I have tried following all the steps to patching this rom but the rom does not work when i try to patch it.  It works when I don't change the ips file to the same name as the rom but once I change the ips file the rom no longer works.  Can someone help me and tell me what I am doing wrong?

Here is the log zsnes gives me:

This is the info for the last game you ran.

File: Famicom Tantei Club Part II (J) (V1.0) (NP).smc Header: No
FAMITAN USIRONITATU       TYPE:NORMAL
INTERLEAVED:No      IPS      CHKSUM:FAIL
VIDEO:NTSC    BANK:Lo     CRC32:AAAD9B7F

See the checksum error? Test your ROM with NSRT to make sure it's the correct one.

thanks for the suggestion but for some reason the rom works without the patch.  But once i apply the patch the rom stops working.  Should i try downloading the rom (or patch) from another site?  i dont know how to use the NSRT program you are refering to. please tell me what i should do sir.

Download the newest NSRT from Nach's website, extract it and start the "nf.exe" file. Change some options if you want to. (I use the following: [ROM fixing]=Detect and safely trim, Deinterleave, Use fix list; [Headers]=Remove headers; [Naming]=Standard, Lowercase; [Saving]=ZIP)

Then browse to your ROM directory and double-click the ROM file. NSRT should then display in the "database" section if the game was found in the database, or not.

I had the same problem. You need to add a header to the unpatched rom.  You can do that with SNEStool as well with NSRT.

i did everything and the rom was found.  it works without the patch.  however, as soon as i apply the translation patch to it, the rom stops working on znes.

Well, I tried it Snes9x and it worked there after I added the header to the unpatched rom and patched it then. Try all the steps with SNEStool maybe.

Read the post above yours. That answers your question.

The Famicom Tantei patch seems to expect a header'd rom. NSRT, as mentioned (someone (other than me, since I can't even download it at the moment (on capped net)) should update the local version to the latest), can add one to your unheadered rom. I can't make a complete walkthrough for doing so in the latest NSRT GUI, since I don't have it, and can't download it right now. (Too big, take too long on barely over dialup speeds.)
