hello there. I was wondering if some one could get me a games script. like in a text document with the kanji, hiragana, and katakana.

from maybe one of the games series
Ganbare goemon or Fire Emblem.

i want these scripts because i want to practice translating. maybe if i ever finish i will have some one look over it and it might become a use to some one here.

thanks for your time.

I'm in a similar situation to the original poster - I don't know anything about ROM hacking yet, but would love to help out with the translation efforts of games I'm familiar with.

I'm currently trying to check out the tutorials and such, but it's pretty overwhelming and I'm so impatient wishing I could dive right in and stick English on my games already  Tongue  What I'm most interested in at the moment are Hunter x Hunter games and the SNES versions of Princess Maker and Tokimeki Memorial.  Doing a search through the forums, it looks like Tokimeki has been worked on and abandoned before, but I got conflicting messages as to whether the problem was needing more translation, or not needing translation so much as more hacking...

It's rare for translators to do the actual hacking stuff. If you just want to translate, that's fine and even encouraged Wink If you are looking for a game to translate that some hacker is taking care of technically I suggest taking a look through the Help Wanted Ads:

Many people are looking for translation help. I think I saw people working on some HxH game too. Maybe you should do a quick search on the board, I'm not sure if I saw it here or in some Help Ad.
Tokimeki Memorial is kind of a cursed project. I think there have been 4 attempts already and all had to quit. From what I heard the problem was that no competent hacker wanted to try it, the other project were mostly first time attempts of new people.

Or you could help us with the NXC translating some extra-dialogue stuff   (the dialogue is almost finished, only remains some extra-dialogue sentences of the game's script),pm me if any of you is interested Tongue

PS:Mods,I'm very sorry I know that this should go into the "Help Wanted Ads" section  Lips sealed

Actually, one of them did have a competent hacker. But not enough translation support for the what... 1? 2 megabyte? script. (SNES version)

If you want to start with something a bit smaller, I'm looking for translators for my Demon's Blazon and Fire Emblem projects. Hell, I'm even looking for an editor to look over the translated scripts I DO have (you'd need to be like, an English major or something to qualify for that one, though). ^_~

Hm, anyone know where I could get ahold of some of that previous work?  Even if it is a big project, I'm very familiar with the game after playing through to get all the endings, and I'd hate to see all the time I've put into it just go to waste.

I actually had a copy of the previous work at one time. Honestly, the only thing I found in it that looked worth keeping was a custom made 12x12 tile viewer, but that's not really necessary when you have FEIDAN.

I thought somebody at j2e (necrosaro?) had a VWF working. Certainly note a small feat, especially at the time.

Jee. That'd have been helpful a year ago. >.<
