Hey, I'm new to applying translation patches and I'm kind of confused on how to apply one to a game. The game I'm trying to patch up is Famicom Detective Part 2 for the Super Famicom. I downloaded the patch and the 1.0 version of the game but I have no idea on what to do next. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million!

This is one that needs an added header to the rom btw.

Oh, man, sorry to bring this one up again, but I am lost again as how to apply an added header to the rom. I've read the readme but could not figure it out. I got it to work before but I'm lost in the shuffle again. Have the translation patch from this site and the 1.0 version of the game. Help!

Errr, how to apply an added header? What do you mean? You have to add a header to the ROM using NSRT, and apply the patch, either with LunarIPS or using the softpatching feature of Zsnes or Snes9x (read their documentation to know how to use it). Man, it's all in the FAQ that visualdefenition linked!

1. Get a Hexeditor. Any real Hexeditor will do. Try WindHex
2. Open the Rom in the HexEditor
3. Goto Offset 0x000000 (that's the start of the file and you should already be there upon opening the rom)
4. Find the insert function and make sure it accepts hexadecimal values
5. Insert 0x200 (that's 512 decimal) Bytes at 0x000000
6. Apply patch
7. Re-open patched rom in hexeditor and remove the first 0x200 bytes (that's the header you added)
8. Enjoy playing the ROM.

WindHex can only overwrite existing data (most ROM-centric hex editors seem to support "overwrite" mode, as insert mode can easily destroy a ROM if you're not REAL careful). You'll have to find a general hex editor.
(I use AXE 2.0, last freeware version of a now shareware program. Not sure if anyone can recommend any still-freeware hex editors?)

Snestool should be all he needs.
