hey whatsup.

One thing that really gets neglected in the help for programs like FFHackster (for hacking Final Fantasy and Temporal Flux (for hacking Chrono Trigger) is "How do you change what happens first?"

For example, I can't find where in the FF1 rom the intro text is. You know, "the world is fading, the wind dies, flowers explode and four warriors come bearing orbs" or whatever. The blue screen, with the white letters that gradually appear. How do you change what those say?

I don't have the offset at the moment, but download a hex editor that supports table files (WindHex32 is a good choice), open a FF1 ROM and the FF1 DTE table (Supplied with Hackster) and search for a word in the opening text, you should find it pretty quick.

If you'd like some help with it, I'd be happy to give you a hand with any HEX related issues with FF1 hacking. I've actually gotten... well, not great, but not too bad about it. But yeah, it would have been too intensive in the case of FF to make it work just right, because the opening, 'true' opening and the finale are all entirely different formats than the rest of the text in the game... It wouldn't work.

I made this thread ages and a half ago. It had a good number of basic questions in it. There used to be an awesome thread on the Acmlm forum, but ||Bass or whatever his name is took over and is a douche and deleted the archive. But yeah, many beginner FF issues.

I have the thread from Acmlm's archived:

I keep meaning to go through these and write an actual document with the information but I'm lazy.

You can also turn them into HTML, zip them up and there go. That's the lazy man's way to fame. Wink

Final Fantasy hacking utilities

There was one I used a long time ago that pretty much allows you to edit everything, so long as you stay within the rom's size limit. I made an God Mode Easy hack using this... But the wizard lost all his magic! D:

Yeah, that's Hackster, but you can't edit the opening, middle or ending text.
