You know, I just thought of something...

It's really not like 1999, because if it were and DaMarsMan released those screenshots of DQ3r, this board would be flooded with about 50 people asking to beta test it boasting their leet "grammer" skills.

Yeah, and I'd actually get e-mails of encouragement, support, and even offers to help. Shocked

Times sure have changed! Honestly though, I think things have been on a small upswing since ROMhacking.net was established. We were really starting to head into a dark age there in 2004-2005. Life will never return to what it was in the late 90's, but we can at least string things along on a comfortable level for awhile. Smiley

04 and 05 weren't bad years! Cyber Knight 2, Hiouden - Legend of the Scarlet King, Cave Story, King of Demons, God Medicine, Mobile Suit Gundam: Cross Dimension 0079, Star Fox 2, Ball Bullet Gun, Warning Forever, Front Mission: Gun Hazard, Liberation Army, Madou Monogatari, Shin Megami Tensei II, Assault Suits Valken, and Cyborg 009 all came out in 04/05!

Nothing like a bit of self-advertisement, eh Gideon?

*looks at the list*

And out of all of those, I've played...*counts* three. I do need to do the assault suits and front missions, though. ;_;

AGTP != Fan Translation Community nor does your release list have much of anything to do with the total population of ROMhackers increasing or decreasing or having anywhere to go for resources. I think you missed the point.  Undecided\

I still love you for translating Cave Story, Gideon.  To this day, it still remains the only homebrew game I've played start to finish.  The only other one I ever got close to completing was one called Eternal Daughter, but it was so difficult to play with a keyboard.  Maybe I should give it a run with a PS2 controller.

NC, if you are working on something one hour every two weeks, it's a matter of time before you decide to quit. Not referring with "you" to you specifically, but to people in general. I suppose it's also a personal matter of every person, if you have the will to keep doing it, you'll eventually success. At least that's what I do as well with my own things.

Despite's Gideon not use of the "shameless plug" tag, I'd say that he's not exactly making a simple joke. If the scene was like some years ago, people will rave over the translation of Gun Hazard and (especially) Star Fox 2. Not to mention Cave Story made quite some noise. But well, I suppose there are fancier things now like... social networks?

And even then, I think there's quite some more accomplishment than before. Works are really professional now, people from all over the world contributes in one way or other... while back then lots of projects were abandoned or completed in a quick 'n' dirty way, most of the people doing something were from USA only... I think I prefer things like they're now, even if there's not that sense of excitement.

I get pretty excited about this stuff still. And I disagree about abandoning projects. I have some projects I haven't worked on in years. Sometimes I go back to them and make a lot of progress. Jumping around with projects is a good way to keep yourself interested.
