Wow...When I open Sonic 1 on the Tile editor. It seems to be a big mess...I can't even find the main sonic sprites...Uh...Help please? P.S. Yes, I did change the format.

Might be that the graphics are compressed which means you're screwed, but if you just want the sprites then there are other ways of obtaining them. Load a RAM dump in the tile editor or a VRAM dump in a tile editor and you should get your sprites.

I don't know if it's actually compressed, but if you switched to the correct format (it could be really any format) and still couldn't find anything then chances are that it's compressed. There are no tools that could uncompress anything for the Genesis and you'd have to build a utility to extract and insert the graphics and before you can even extract them, you'd have to trace the games code to find out all the good details. You'd have to pretty good with assembly language in order to accomplish the above. That would be if you'd want to alter the game, but you wouldn't have to do that if you'd just want the graphics.

As far as I remember, Sonic's (and in ex. Sonic 2 Tails') sprites are all not compressed, however most other graphics are (title screen, zone graphics, HUD, etc). There are tools and the like to de- and recompress the different compression types used in the MD Sonic games, however that's at about all I remember on the subject right now. It's been a while since I tried hacking Sonic 1 or 2...

A quick search of sonic through the utilities section has yielded no results. Perhaps they should be added to this site.

Is that right? I suspect you only searched in the titles and not the descriptions.

Oh wait. It's not compressed at all. It's just that the sonic sprites were such a huge mess... :banghead:But it's hard to change the body when the pieces are scattered about! Is there any tile tools that arrange the sprites in the right order. If not, I REALLY respect you guys. BTW... In case you are wondering what I'm doing, I'm hacking sonic to replace him with these. I made them myself. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q296/herooftime1000/Angel-1.pngI already have her sprites in a 16 color bitmap and she's ready to dump. But with all these scattered small sonic body parts. It feels impossible to replace the sprites...

In Tile Layer Pro, you can drag the tiles to the Tile Arranger. From there the tiles you edit will also effect the tiles in the ROM

Maybe you can see it properly using the Tile Molester interleave feature.
