Topic: Ä and Ö translating problem (Read 754 times)

Newbie wants ask something. I try translate FFIII US (sness)rom to Finnish. We Finn use alphabets ä and ö, but I couldn't use them in windhex. I edited FFIII table and put new alphabets there. (Yes I checked that I saved them) I can saw them in windhex text editor, but then when I saved my work and try my translating in emulator....... Everything is fine, but i don't see ä or ö alphabets anywhere. Emulator shows old english translating and some my own texts.
What's wrong with table? Can somebody help. Sry my bad english.

Suggestion #1: Base your Finnish translation on FFVI Advance for GBA. Built-in VWF for everything, no bank swapping means theoretically much more space for scripts...and you get all the extras. :3
Suggestion #2: Don't edit anything in WindHex except for code and data. Use a tool like Romjuice to extract the game's script, then format it for use with Atlas for easy reinsertion.

Suggestion 3: If you can't see the letters, you might want to replace them for something else in the table. So the o with the little dots on top could become, I dunno, O+. I do this with certain letters that don't show up on fonts.

I will take 3. suggestion, because it's easier. But still I feel pain inside me, because I can't use ä or ö... heh heh

I repeat: don't edit the game's text in WindHex. Dump it first, using Romjuice, and reinsert using Atlas. It takes more work but it's cleaner and easier. Plus, you will be able to use your umlauts (or whatever you call them in Finland).

I tried romjuice, but it didn't work. I study now C++ and that same problem comes sometimes in my works. >__> My computer will excecute romjuice, but program will jump out from loop. This is problem of program.
And I noticed something. Someone named Tommis made it. He translate FFIII first. Damn. But I still want translate something with windhex. So I need help if that same ä-ö problem comes.

It might be a bit of a pain to build a table since SE uses strange order for the characters but it's well worth it.

Let me repeat: translating something with WindHex is like trying to carve a life-size replica of the Statue of Liberty with a hand chisel. Romjuice doesn't work? Fine. If you say you're studying C++, you can write your own script dumper. Make sure it features Unicode support.
