Unless it's either one of the "Secret of Mana" multiplayer games, I would
think that is extremely tough. Sad

That's gonna be HARD. MAybe RPG maker has a game mode that can do this. ( Someone help me here ).
Either that or you can code a FF style Fan-made game from scratch and have online play in
the game engine. Smiley

for a project like that you're most likely going to be on your own, there are lots of really smart people here that can point you in the right direction but if you are serious about this you really have to understand the time and knowledge needed to do something like this.

if you don't already have a LOT of coding experience or are like a freaking genius at learning then I'm afraid there probably aren't great chances of this project seeing completion.

not trying to rain on your parade, really I think it would be cool, but I don't think you are going to see anyone around do most of the work for you, understand this would take a LOT of work, probably years at the non professional level.

Nope. RM is about as sophisticated as a rock. (Well... that's mean... but still...). Your best bet, if you don't know C++ (or Java, I guess), is Game Maker... :/ But I think many, MANY people here are going to tell you to learn C++...

Surprisingly, that is actually possible using a MMO game maker called BYOND:

Final Fantasy 1-3: http://games.byond.com/hub/Gakumerasara/FinalFantasyOnline
FAQ:
http://z3.invisionfree.com/ffo/index.php?showtopic=1997

Dragon Warrior: http://games.byond.com/hub/SoE_Team/DragonWarriorShadowsOfErdrick
Final Fantasy 5: http://games.byond.com/hub/TheFFAnotherWorldTeam/AnotherWorld
Final Fantasy 4: http://games.byond.com/hub/Loud/FinalFantasyLegacy

Even more surprising is that the Final Fantasy Online forum has like 50,000 posts, as much as RHDN
http://s3.invisionfree.com/ffo

I'm sure they could help you make your own BYOND game or you could just play BYOND games.

BTW, you control with the keypad with num lock off, or push control-d to control with the mouse with the box that comes up.

And speaking of Final Fantasy 6, not online but here is a FF6 SDK for RPGMaker XP in the works:
