So as I was sorting through my 2+ year old backup CDs, I came across a few ROM hacking related documents that I thought would be worth finishing/updating and releasing.
The first is entitled ROM Hacking from A to Z - A Visual Guide to Complete Project Management. It is still far from done but I would like a few people to take a look at it and see if they think it is something that is worth continuing. Basically, it starts from the very beginning of a project (choosing which game to hack) and goes step by step through the entire project, not only documenting what is being done but including a vast array of images showing the process. It not only focuses on the actual techniques used in ROM hacking but deals with good project management, as well. It deals specifically with a translation project but 90% of the information will apply to enhancement hacking as well.
The next document is called The Theory of Relative Searching. What it explains is HOW relative searching works. It doesn't focus on the technical details of how to do a relative search, but it provides a greater understanding of the underlying process.
The final document was more of an op-ed piece I wrote for The Repository entitled On the Essence of ROM Hacking which I may or may not have posted on the old rhdc. It's sort of a philosophical piece that explains to the uninitiated what ROM hacking is all about.
All three of these are in PDF format, so make sure you have Acrobat Reader installed. While the documents are targeted at complete beginners, I would appreciate some input from ROM hackers with moderate experience.
If you're interested in checking these out and letting me know what you think, drop me a private message with an e-mail address to which I can send them. Alternatively, you can give me an AIM SN to send them to but my online schedule is quite erratic (and about to get more so when I start a new job next week) so it might be difficult to arrange to transfer the files via AIM.
