I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

I'm trying to change one of the players name from 'Sammy' to 'Skate' like so:

Now when I save the changes and load it up in Gens, the emulator (and so does Fusion as well) displays a red screen of death screen. <_<  This happens when I change text data in 'Streets of rage 3' as well. >_<

How do I fix this problem?

It's probably a checksum problem, maybe there's a way to override it in the emulator?

Afaik that's a checksum issue. There should be an option to ignore the ROM's checksum somewhere, look for that.

Well Windhex has an option to fix the checksum for SNES roms, I clicked on it but the hex editor could not locate the CHECKSUM.

The must be an option somehwere in the eumulator to ignore it.  Or maybe another tool which will fix the problem.

EDIT:  Found the option under the Misc options in Gens.  Thanks for the help Spikeman and Kaioshin. Smiley

...Genesis roms aren't SNES roms.  Roll Eyes

This is what you want.

That tool did the trick! Thanks! Smiley

Sure thing. It's a must have for any sort of Genesis hacking, unless you feel like tracking down the checksum code and disabling it.

BTW, if you don't mind my asking, what are you planning on doing wiht BK3 other than changing Sammy to Skate?

I prefer to play the JPN version of Streets of Rage 3 (Bare Knuckles 3) since the USA version is too hard and too many unnesscary things were changed.

So I'm interested in translating Bare Knuckles 3 but only changing the nesscary text in the game.  The stuff I plan to change are:

- 'Sammy' changed to 'Skate'.  Thats what they called him in SOR2.
- Change some of the enemy's names.  Using a mixture from both JPN and US version.
- Change a few of the weapons names.  Using a mixture from both JPN and US version.
- Translate the cutscenes while keeping to the orginal plot in the JPN version.
- Edit the title screen to say 'Streets of Rage III'
- Import voice sounds from SOF3 if this can be done.

At the moment, I can easily change the the enemys and weapons name.  I just got to decide which names to keep and change.

The translations for the cutscene can be viewed at this site: http://soronline.classicgaming.gamespy.com/sor3_bk3translation.htm.

But first I got to locate where the Japanease text is and make a font table.  Then I can dump the data and get the translations checked.

Also I had a look at the BK3 in Tile Layer Pro to see if I could find the font or the graphics title but I had no luck.  Perhaps I should try and find the font in the English version first?

In that case I feel compelled to inform you that someone is already working on doing just that. Wink

But are you still working on it?

"With any luck, you should see a release by Christmas of 2006. Check the main page for future updates." XD

Seems to me the site hasn't been update for a good six months.   Cheesy

http://www.rpgclassics.com/subsites/twit/ <-- The "main page". Tongue

I've spent the last 6 months working on an assembler so I could do a quality job on BK3. SEKAS should've already been finished, but June has been hell on my romhacking life. Sad

*goes back to hacking Advance Wars 2*

Good luck with getting BOK3 translated.  Wink
