Here's what happened. Every time I apply an IPS patch (using Lunar IPS) to an SNES rom, it just... doesn't work. I go to play the newly-patched rom and it just says "bad checksum." I've tried with SNES9X and ZSNES; same results. And every rom hack that said the rom needed to be expanded? I followed the directions exactly as stated, and expanded them with Lunar Expand.
Does anyone have a solution to this? Thanks!

Most hacks don't bother to refix the checksum, so using that as an indication isn't a good idea. If the rom works after it's been patched then there's nothing to worry about.

Lenophis is on target.
If a patching a rom doesn't work, the following may be true:
1) The rom is not a good dump. It is suggested to use NSRT to verify a good dump.
2) The patch expects a header. NSRT can provide that service. Sometimes the readme lets you know it is expecting this.
3) The patch expects particular revision/region of the ROM.. the readme usually specifies this.
In any case, only one hack to my knowledge required actual rom expansion, and that was Super Demo World. Some hacks (like many SNES FF3 hacks) automatically do rom expansion via patching. In any case, it helps to read the readme if you are unsure.
