For anyone who's an avid fan of VG music, you might be aware that Chrono Trigger has a battle theme on the OST that was never actually used in the game.  I'm about to play through the game again, and I was wondering if it would be possible to replace the shitty original battle theme with the unused one.  It would make the experience a lot better, hearing the better theme through all those fights Smiley

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Of course it's possible, since rom hacking practically allows for completely brand new or old things to be imported. Now that I think about it, it's probably easy enough to grab the SPC data in the demo rom and sticking in the official version, and expanding whatever tables as necessary (should only be 2 to expand). No, I don't know where any of it is in CT, since I haven't dived deeply into it. But yeah, if you know what you are doing it's probably a ten minute job.

Anywhere I can get this battle theme in MP3 format or something?

I've heard that Chrono Trigger had an unused battle theme, and being somewhat obsessed with battle themes and boss music, I'm interested in hearing it myself...

Do you mean the "Unknown Battle", funky version of "Battle 1" or the "Battle 1 Remix" from the beta?

Do yourself a favor and download the "SNESamp" plugin (and XMPlay, a little player which you don't even need to install). Here's the directions
And then you can play ANY soundtrack from this archive. The CT OST there has every SNES CT song, beta included.

Hm, that's an unused track? *Listens*
Yes, I can't remember hearing it in the game  Tongue This one and the Shining Mountain are unused in the final release.

Beta tracks are fun too. I like Battle 1 with it's funky "rubber bass" and the Unknown Battle that sounds like a Boss theme that was made by crossbreeding CT and Bahamut Lagoon soundtracks... Battle 1 Remix doesn't sound too good for me though.

The problem with Battle 2 is that, as good as it is, it doesn't really fit anywhere. It's too fast-paced for a normal battle theme, and it doesn't really fit any of the boss battles, probably why it was scrapped. It actually sounds like it would make a better area theme than anything else.

It's still in the ROM, so getting it to play somewhere should be pretty simple, Temporal Flux should be able to do it (I don't know for sure, I have very little experience with CT).

Yeah I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to this stuff.  I'm technically apt so I downloaded Temporal Flux to see if I could figure it out, but it looks pretty complex so I'm not gonna putz with anything Cheesy

Just play around and keep a couple backups. Playing around with the utilities available is the only way you're going to learn.

I've heard MIDI versions of Battle 2 over on www.vgmusic.com, but never the real SPC version. I really like it. It would have fit perfectly for a battle in the original game in my opinion. Yet, somehow, the song instantly made me think of that Power Rangers SNES sidescroller action game... Which is a fun game, by the way.

Is it just me or do all 3 midis get the tempo wrong?
ct-battle2.mid would probably be closest to original.

Still, there's nothing like an SPC(RSN) rip  Tongue
