What the title says.

Is there a program that can do it, or do I have to use one of those ugly hex editors?

You can go the "Sin & Punishment" way:
1. Find a game that relies solely on textures to represent the ingame text
2. Dump textures from a rom with the help of a special graphical plug-in for a N64 emu
3. Edit\\Replace the dumped textures with translated ones
4. ? ? ? ? ?
5. Profit!
(That's how it goes, right?)

But I don't think there are many games like that.

This method is bullshit, because 1) it ONLY works on emulators that support the special plug-in, and 2) it won't work on the actual hardware, not by a long shot, unless you can actually put the textures back into the rom (which mitigates issue #1 as well.)

Oh I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, just noted that Sin & Punishment was translated like that  Tongue
I'm not too sure about this, but I remember reading that 2 of the 3 existing plugins for N64 emus support texture dumping... or something like that  Undecided\

By the way, is there someone who knows how N64 pointers works?
I looked for the pointers of Zelda 64, but I was never able to find 'em...

So? How many people use stuff like this on actual hardware? Sure I know the hardcore do but not many others. I can understand wanted to make it work on the real thing for completion sake but otherwise meh.

A hack or translation that works on the real system will ALWAYS work on emulators as time moves forward as their goal is to emulate the original hardware.

Using some off the wall emulator add on to make a hack is like making your hack work only for Nesticle. Tongue  How many people are still playing those hacks today?

N64 pointers work like regular pointers. Probably little endian...This never means they are stored that way. The assembly can handle the pointers any way it wants. You have to do a trace and I don't even know if there is a N64 tracer out there.
