Ok Gideon. The utility for the game is starting to look a lot better now. I have the inserter working pretty well. The compressor is 100% ( AFAIK ). Here is a pic of the inserter and compressor working well together. Also, I would use the standard ASCII format. The inserter is built for it. But if you notice, it is also built to re-insert using Kana AND a table file. And the editor itself... That looks so awesome! O_O But this is a game specific text editor, correct?

Yep! Just haven't had time to take a look. Metal Max has been stewing for the better part of a year, and I want to get it done

whew I'm relieved to hear someones made some progress with chaos seed. I've been attempting to learn how to hack n edit text on and off for the last few years, as I've had a burning desire to see chaos seed translated(sadly I've gotten pretty much nowhere, lol every time I learn something, I forget it by the time I get around to remembering what it was I was doing in the first place O.o).
I'm about to leave off for the giant sandbox for about a year, so I'm hoping and praying within that time some more progress gets done. I can't offer much support, but when I get back from Iraq I'd gladly donate a bit of loot to this project to show my support.

any update to whether anyone is currently working on this? I may have to just wait until the day I'm rich and throw large amounts of cash at people to get this game translated, lol.

Good luck with that! I haven't heard anything about the game yet. With a traslator, this game could be in a much better state than it is in curently. If you have been around long enough then you would know that finding a translator is NOT that easy.

lol yeah, that I know. I've been a lurker for years (since around 97 - 98, when I was like 14)
There's enough people wanting this game to be translated, I almost wonder if I could start a fund to "hire" a translator....first steps would be finding someone who's willing to do all the other work....

I *have* a translator, it's just a question of getting around to it :/ And he's been pretty busy lately, too.

nice, well looks like one day the game'll be playable(as my chances of learning Japanese are slim - none, lol). I might incorporate something similar to chaos seed into a game I'm gonna make(when I finish college, I'm in Devry for game and simulation programming). These rare gems just get forgotten about and nothing like them ever comes along again.

Practice makes better, bub. If you’re going for a job in the games business, you may as well try to get a little leverage. (Hell, I’m currently trying for merely the [war-game] simulation business [i.e. military training sims] and I still do Japanese on the side).

I have to send you an update to that util too! I had to replace two "strncmpi( ... ) with strncmp( ... )". The inserter would have inserted AL CAPS!?@

I may learn to speak japanese a bit one day, however reading it is a whole different beast. Like German, I was stationed in Germany the past 2 years(even landed me a beautiful fiance, getting married in 2 1/2 months, she's flying all the way to michigan for me) As a result, I can speak a bit of german, however Ican't read it at all. :-(
