Wh!
So it seems an Italian group has translated my very favourite game into their native language.
On the surface, this is useless to me, but I commend them.
However, this means that there are some folk with some practical experience in hacking the game; this is brimming with promise and wonder!
I'm curious as to whether anyone in these here parts speaketh Italiano and might be able to inquire as to the extent of their hackin'. Started replaying it again (I have been replaying VS a few times a year ever since it hit in 2000; so this would be the most recent playthrough as of a few weeks ago) and was thinking about how it'd be interesting to try and splice some new areas in. Or extract enough from it that the textures and such might find their way into another engine.
Plus it'd be a nice way to not have to endlessly kill Lost Crusaders for rood blades and Arturos gems.
The website in question is at
here.
Oh, I would have never expected that an Americano would be interested in our work.
As for the extent of the hacking... well, you may be interested in the fact that I managed to edit the Drop% (from 8% to 100%
) of the Holy Win and the Romphaia (I needed this hack in order test all of the weapons. Of course, I put the normal values back after obtaining the swords).
In fact, those values are right after monster names... I must admit I still don't know much of the format that Square used for storing stats, dropped items and their drop%... but, since I know their location, I do not think it would be too hard to understand it completely.
If you're interested in ripping the pictures, I can send you PSPicture+Vagrant Story plugin. It will allow you to extract almost every picture of the game (this too was very useful to test on the fly our translated images, since VS uses a weird system to map RAWs...).
And, if you want more info about how-to-edit Weapons stats and MUCH more, you'll find some very interesting documents on Gamefaqs. There is someone who studied quite well the game, even if not for translations issue.
Hope to have been of help.
If you want some infos, don't be afraid to ask. But be aware that we didn't study the game more than we needed, excluding this drop%.
Ciao
P.S. BTW, maybe you can find this piesce of information interesting. It seems that Damascus was meant to be Gold, since there is a "G" left near the letters that are used to show which material is a weapon made of.
