I have been using ZeldaTech3.2 for the overworld stuff and it has been incredibly helpful (though I would like a few more options in where I can put secrets).  However, I haven't been able to use Zeldit too well.  Plus, I think it only can change the first 5 castles.  I can't seem to get Zelda Improvement to work since it's for DOS.  Are there any other programs that people know of?

Also, how do I go about changing the graphics?

If you want to try Zelda Improvement, it doesn't take long to learn as much DOS as you'll need to start the program.
What you'll need to do is open a command prompt. To do that, hold the Windows key and press R. You'll get a little box in the corner. Type cmd. You should get a little black box. That's the command prompt[EDIT: Roll Eyes]. cd to the folder where the program is and run it.
Hope that helps.

That's actually the command prompt.

Command Prompt != DOS

Thank you, hippiejake.  I appreciate the quick response.  I have opened up the command window.  The path I have for the program is...

C:\\Documents and Settings\\Owner\\Desktop\\ROM hacking\\Zelda\\zi01

...but when I type it in just like that (with or without the Zeldai01.exe part), it says "'Desktop' is not recognized as an internal or external command".  How do I 'cd' it again?

P.S. I love your picture.  UHF is awesome!

Type

cd C:\\Documents and Settings\\Owner\\Desktop\\ROM hacking\\Zelda\\zi01

And it should display

C:\\Documents and Settings\\Owner\\Desktop\\ROM hacking\\Zelda\\zi01

Now type "Zeldai01.exe" and it should start.

Hmm...now I get an error saying, "Stub exec failed, dos4gw.exe: No such file or directory".

I read online that I'm supposed to copy some sort of file in a WATCOM directory.  That sounds kind of weird to me.  Has this ever happened to anyone?

Here's a picture to help clarify what's going on.

Do you have DOS4GW.EXE in the same directory?

(There's also the DOSBox emulator, but it's a bit more difficult to setup.)

Hmm. I'm not sure what that means, sorry.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to poke fun at you for using IE....
.....
There we go. Wink

Do a google search for DOS4GW, download it, and put it in the same directory.

Ugh...

It can get to the title screen for Zeldai01, but it quits the program when I hit anything.  Is it supposed to do that, or is something wrong?

This utility looks very promising for editing the dungeons, though I haven't explored it extensively.

These documentations on Zelda level data served as guides for my first rom hacking experience.
