One of the things that put me off about the Gameboy CV games was the slow walking speed of the protagonists. While I understand this was due to the old school Gameboys blurring very badly when *anything* moved, in the age of emulation it's just a pain in the ass.

So I hacked Castlevania - Legends so Sonia moves faster than usual. If you want the boring details of how it was done, it's in the Readme.

I'm currently trying to do the same with Belmont's Revenge, but it's proving to be much more difficult, to say the least. I hope to have it tackled by this weekend, with any luck (I'm hardcore n00bish at z80).

As a final note, it seems that the location I pointed several routines to is *always* $01, but I only went through half the game after doing it. If you find any bugs, please let me know.

Great work!

Also were you planning on uploading this to the database?

I was gonna do that with my CV legends hack, which I haven't finished yet. How about slightly increasing the jump height too? The speed of Sonia always bothered me too, mostly because the stages are long and repetitive. It never bothered me in CV2 tho.

Feel free to use this for your Legends hack, if you want.

Her jump height seems fine to me, but I may do that later (After I get Belmont's Revenge "fixed").

Good work with this hack! It's always good to see our poor, maligned Sonia getting the respect she truly deserves. Damn that Igarashi with his bishonen CV protagonists and his "no woman could be a hero" timeline-removal arrogance... Tongue

I've had several people email to complain that Sonia moves too fast, and since her speed modifier is the same as Burning Mode's, it cheapens it by not making her move faster.

So I've addressed the issue.

It turns out that Belmont's Revenge and Legends share a lot of routines, and the speed modifiers are among them. So I hacked this to where Sonia moves at the same speed Christopher does in my Belmont's Revenge speed hack (A little slower than v1.0, but still a signifigant boost from normal), so Burning Mode makes her move a little faster.

I've also added a patch for the japanese version (It uses SRAM instead of a password system).

Good idea on using the Japanese version, and I find the new speed alot better.
