I don't know if this is old or not, but I've been playing around with Dragon Warrior 2 (US, GBC). Around #530F0, there seems to be a list of words tacked in the middle of some dialogue, containing several references to sex, nazis, homosexuals and different genetials.
I've never played through the entire game completely, so does anyone know if these words were present in the original game (albeit not available to players i must presume), or if my copy has already been hacked?

Such a list exists in DQM as well. This is a ban list of words which you can't use as player names.

Try to name your character F*ck and see what happens. That's what the list is there for.

Why is it they add these things into single player games? I mean the only one you are currupting is yourself and if you were going to name yourself that then you are already that currupt.

Why, to encourage children to type in all the bad words they know and see which ones are banned, of course.

Kid names the hero something profane, parents see it and start a crusade against the developer.

As much as I'd like to think these things are unnecessary, I too have named Tifa (FF7) "f*** me", as it makes for some rather humorous conversations in-game. DWM2, from what I understand, also let you trade monsters with friends while giving your name away in the process. I wonder if Pkmn D/P has a register like this...

At my job we had a racing game called Racing Jam by Konami. I had gotten a high score and tried to put in SEX as my initials and it changed it to KON. I felt cheated. Hehe. I wanted to be called the Sexy Pharaoh King.

On a side note, event-only Pocket Monsters had Nintendo characters in the name field; I have a Mew on a Yellow cart supposedly owned by "LinkW".

I remember messing with 3 letter innitials in arcade games, we thought that fuk was pretty good until we saw one that was "fuq" I mean, fitting the meaning of two words into 3 letters is pretty creative.

Sheesh. It's people like you that are the reason we have "Pac-Man" instead of...

...considering the alternative, my only option is to be grateful. ^_^;
