looks like some one is trying to do *something* with the game, thought i'd post it here since the only Emerald Dragon you have on the Trans list is the SNES version

Pardon my ignorance, but what are you talking about? I don't see anything related to Emerald Dragon on that page.

Dave Shadoff has done a bit with Emerald Dragon PCE and so have I. They are actually fairly technically similar. Many of my findings also applied to the PCE-CD port. I'd be interested in potentially sharing information with those working on a PCE-CD translations.

Ah, ok. That's great to hear. I haven't heard from Dave since sometime last year. I had previously helped him out with the compression and some other things. It's nice to know things are going well.

Which port will be complete first? The heat is on.  Grin

It's no wonder that this version is ignored considering the obscure emulation and especially the fact that the damn game can't be found anymore. 

On a related note, I just tried out the latest version of Unz.  I was finally able to play that cursed Ultima trilogy.  It's very good for those seeking a way to start the series.  I might edit this later.

The FM-TOWNS version?  The game has numerous ports... PC-98, Sharp X68000, PCE-CD, SNES...  Chances are you found one of those versions.  All which are very easy to find.

oh, yea got mixed up. i found the Turbo-duo version, wich made me go seraching for a trans project on it since it looks a damn sight better than the snes version

Do the Ultima ports contain an English switch (like some of the Wizardry games), or are they perfectly playable the way they are for an English speaker/someone familar with western versions? Do you also happen to have some knowledge about the Phantasie ports and the Rogue Alliance game which are available on many Japanese computers? I ask because I'm curious what the background of Phantasie IV is, as SSI  made originally only three games, and I believe that Rogue Alliance is actually Realms of Darkness (originally for Apple II and C64). A lot of of Japanese ports seem vastly superior.

Those two ports are actually quite a bit different in the game play department. The most notable is the fact that the SNES one plays like a 'traditional' SNES RPG with a traditional RPG over world while the PCE-CD version has a zelda like overworld. You will get lost without a map on the PCE-CD version most likely. It can also make travel annoying sometimes in my opinion. However, the original game has zelda style over world though, so it's more faithful to the original.

I wish I knew why the SNES port's colors seem washed out. I will potentially see about addressing this issue in the translation if possible. I'm not too great with color shades and fixing up colors. I also don't know how many palettes I'd have to locate and change from a technical standpoint. If it's too much work, I probably won't do it. However, I really think it will give the graphics a big punch in a good direction.

I was unable to find anything regarding Rogue Alliance but you're right about the Phantasie series.  The trilogy was released by SSI and made by Winston Douglas Wood.  Why SSI is not associated with the fourth title can be found here.

 That'd be awesome. A minor graphic hack/improvement+translation. I've beat the PCE version back when it came out and didn't even know about this version until a few months back. I'm definitely looking forward to playing it.
