Hi everybody, I am working on a SML-hack that is graphics-only so far, but I'd like to change that.
Most importantly, I'd really like to edit the levels, but I don't know how. Is there a tool available?

Also, I suppose this is too complicated/impossible, but what about changing the sound effects or even the music?

Thanks for your help. I will post screenshots of my hack in the screenshots thread soon.

I think datacrystal has a rom map, so you can use that info for level editing. Whatever you do, don't colorize it, not unless you know how to fix the gameplay ending glitches that will occur.

There ain't no level editor for SML, so you'll have to do it in a hex editor. There's a level hack of SML that Frank15 did. Lemme dig up his notes for you...

Frank15's Super Mario Land Data.

Hope this gives you a hand in what you wanna do, good luck.

Please add that file to our archives.

That way nobody has to 'dig it up' in the future as it will already be archived and indexed so it can be easily found by anyone over and over and over again when needed. Wink

Thanks for submitting that file Googie. I'm sure someone seeking SML info in the future will appreciate it. Smiley Forums are a poor medium to use for archiving information long term. If you were to leave the Internet, who would be able to dig it up next time somebody asked and the board got pruned? The database shall hopefully live on indefinitely since it is backed up regularly automatically and accessible to multiple people at all times.

We should keep that in mind when pointing somebody to a file or information that is not on our site that should be.

It's daunting to think of the amount of useful info that has fallen off of acmlm's boards.

It's daunting to think of the amount of useful info that has fallen off of acmlm's boards.

That's a good example. It's hard to find anything there if it IS still on the board unless you're a regular. It's also a bit far fetched to keep a forum going indefinitely without ever pruning it even if you have the best of intentions to preserve all of the information.

Look at our smaller board. We have 35,000 posts. It's already becoming difficult if you're looking for something specific that may have been posted here early last year. Instead, in the database, there is around 2000 items much better organized than forum posts and easy to find and sort through. It's simple logic. With the database, any new person can come to the site and usually quickly find some helpful resources if they are here. With the forum, you best remember specifics about what you're looking for or know somebody who knows where it is.

Only by saving and building on information can we advance. Losing the information isn't going to help us.
