Just to let everyone know what's going on....I have aquired the translated snes scripts from Dark Force, I'm in the processes of copying them all over to my ps2 script. Most of the lines I found are identical with the exception of a few which need to be retranslated. Still this should give us a playable version with about 50% translation completion. Most of the ps2 script is added features like being able to talk to your party members. That's really what makes it so big.

How much evidence do you have the the script is the same? I am skeptical that it is word for word unchanged from the SNES version.

Either way, DQV was a great and very "sentimental" game on its own- A translation of the PS2 version should make the PS2 savvy really, really happy.

And... That new feature- Talking to party members...  Shocked Shocked Shocked SWEETERZ

I wonder how some of the 3D-ness was handled... I mean, its a remake of a 2D game... Kinda hard, no?

Don't forget I took 4 years of Japanese.  Grin
Like I said anything that is a little bit different get's retranslated. Most changes are more kanji. Sometimes things are worded a little differently so I make a note about it. Either way, it's obvious they worked off of the snes script. If SE decides to release the game, I'm not going to work on it anymore. I don't want any problems. However, assuming a release is a long shot. They have already made it pretty clear that it isn't going to happen. Even after all the protests.

I guess I just generally don't like the idea of simply ripping the script from the DeJap version word for word. I hope you do take the time to go through and make any of the subtle changes that are there. Don't forget, Byuu also translated DQ5 for the SNES. And even those two, while translating the SAME Japanese script are fairly different when it comes to the English results.

Think Dragon Quest VII type engine. It's 3D, but still in a somewhat 2D style. Look at the Dragon Quest IV remake for PSX. It's done in such a way where it probably wasn't too difficult to port 2d to 3d in my opinion. It's not like it's a 'full' 3D remake such as say Wild Arms Alter Code F.

Well right now I can't afford to be picky. This is the best breakthrough I have had so far and I'm sure some things could be changed. However, getting a fully playable game is my number one priority.

Yes, I'm sure Capcom said the same thing when releasing Breath of Fire II, and Sony with Wild Arms 2. Certainly getting the game fully playable is most important. Tongue

Take that as a example warning not to sacrifice quality for quantity. It isn't a race.

I'm recruiting translators now, so if ya know anyone, for any of these projects, tell them to contact either me or DaMarsMan... We could really use the help.

Not to mention the scripts to DQIVr are dumped, we cracked the compression.
