Greetings fellow translation fans.  Each day I check this site for the one NES game I've wished to be translated into English for years: Hiryuu no Ken III - 5 Nin no Ryuu Senshi.  I'm a big fan of this series, and I've played a good bit of this installment, but it's hard to get into the spirit of the game without being able to understand the story.  I heard that someone had translated the text and all that was needed was for it to be inserted into the rom.  This isn't a request, just a statement of interest.  Does anyone know of any current projects to fully translate this rom into English?  Is there a big enough interest in translating it at all?  I thought if anyone could answer these questions, it'd be you guys.  Thanks for your time.

Am I to understand that there's no interest in this whatsoever?

Apparently. There's nothing stopping you from working on the game, though. Smiley

That's what the Translation Request thread is for.

What's with the shittiness?  My post went completely unacknowledged for over 2 months and when I try to bring up the topic again, I receive a smart remark like that?

There's nothing stopping you from working on the game, either, for that matter.

Uh, I didn't mean it as a "smart remark". Don't you love the internet?

Except that a translation hack takes a lot of time and effort, and none of us want to expend those resources on a game we're only marginally interested in. This was why the suggestion that you could learn how to hack if you wanted to was made - it's mutually beneficial. You learn the trade, expend your own resources, and can control the translation projects for games you want.

This kind of threads have been on the rise lately. Maybe we should add a new rule "Don't ask if anyone is interested in game x" These threads are only hidden translation requests anyway, nothing more.

Indeed they did.

I'm quite aware of this.  I am new to these boards but not to the subject matter.  Going forward, you stated basically that no one wants to spend time translating/hacking a game that draws only marginal interest.  Thank you, this is all I was looking for.  I simply wanted to gauge the interest in having this game translated.

@RedComet:  I understand that in reading posts in a forum, sometimes there is miscommunication.  It just seems like anytime anyone either requests a project or shows interest in having a project worked on, there's always at least one person that's quick to say, "Do it yourself."  If one has nothing constructive to add, best not to say anything at all.  If you were genuine with your comment, then I apologize for defaulting to defense.

You're incorrect, at least in my case.  I know ahead of time that I will never devote the time to learning the trade, so I wouldn't have the audacity to make a request for a translation.  I basically just wanted to determine whether or not I could look forward to playing the game in English, that's all.  I was interested in what others' thoughts were on having this game translated.  That's it.

It appears that this kind of conversation isn't welcome here.  I also find it pathetic that no one bothered to pay this topic any attention until it presented an opportunity to throw their proverbial weight around.  Don't worry, I won't waste any more of your board space.  If this is the atmosphere harbored here, how will the community grow?

I'm a huge fan of the Hiryu No Ken series. I owned the original NES game, and have always thought the rest of the series was fun. I'm also plotting to translate the second GB game, which is a straight-up one on one fighter with tons of story to tell. I definitely intended to look at the other games in the series in the future, once I cleared out most of my projects.

Asking if anyone is interested in translating a game is not a bad thing; but there's a "Translation Requests" thread elsewhere in the board for such things. If you had mentioned the game there, then there wouldn't be a problem at all. But there's been a lot of threads like these lately, so don't take it personally.

I've tried finding the text in Hiryuu no Ken III, but I was only able to find some of it. I could never find the main story text. Of course my skills end at table making and relative searching so I could just be plain ol' missing it, or it could be stored in another way.

Random, off-topic question for the fans of the series:

What were the SD Hiryuu no Ken games like?

I've seen enough of this.

It doesn't matter what technicalities you want to argue about what was actually asked here or what the purpose of the topic was. From now on, all 'gauging interest' questions, translations requests and anything remotely like it go HERE:

http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,1387.0.html

That's what the topic is there for.
