That's not going to be an easy task. And seeing how I can't seem to get this game going in pcsx2 I don't know what to say about tracking down that routine. Have you tried the single and double byte english characters in the shift-jis or are they both the same? Sometimes the single byte english is half width.

Thank God the centering is auto-handled...

Unfortunately in this menu, the big ugly text is the same size regardless of using half or full width characters.

What did you end up using to edit this? Turns out my DQ5 font is the same format after looking at it.

Tile Molester.

I imported the palette from the image file itself. I however had to delete the alpha channel byte from each color in the CLUT, so I could import it as a 24-bit RGB (motorola order) palette. I applied the alpha-less palette to the top of the file

I typed out the font in Photoshop (making sure the colors were similar to the imported palette so TM would adjust them accordingly when pasting in), then arranged all the characters the same as in the original imagine file.

Then I just save it as a png or bmp, and use tile molester's "paste from" function. Line it up with the original font, and presto--save, remove the palette data I added to the top of the file, and reinsert. All good.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who does that. I used that trick to insert my SF4 logo into the GBA ROM...though I noticed that, for some ungodly reason, one of the palette entries was corrupted somehow (with a zero byte inserted where it shouldn't have been, resulting in a strange aqua color scattered throughout the image); I fixed this manually, but pay attention and make sure the palette imports properly: it can happen.

This is the best I can get. I used 2bpp linear reverse order. Also set it to 2d. Could you let me know the exact settings you used?

Wrong bitplane. Should be 4BPP, not 2BPP.

Thanks. Now I also found the width and palette data. Also the games table.

Hmm.. Cless some of the letters in your font look a bit off.. for example, the O's should be up one pixel.

Okay. I just replaced the font with a brand new, totally frickin' AWESOME one. Bolder, and much easier to read. I replaced the old screens with it, so go back to the first page and hit refresh (if the old images are still cached).

I also replaced the dialogue shot in the 'screenshots' thread with the new font.

Looks good. I have an idea about those skilll names. You can take areas that are primarily kanji (unused in the translation). And make custom text for all the skills. It would look really sweet. However, the skills would probably appear that way everywhere.

It's just a viewer, not an editor. :/

You can get it here though...

Damn this is a pain...

Yay, someone is finding GGD useful.

umm. a PS2 font question

i' m poking around with some japanese ps2 games and tried translating some text, but i can only use a 2 byte (full width characters asa you guys call it) SHIFT-JIS english charater, because when a i use the normal ASCII charecters 1 byte (half with) nothng come up just blank.

how do i make it display the normal acsii characters? it is somehow related with the font tiles?

P.S.

sorry for the newbie question
