Has anyone managed to get this romhack to work?

I patched it to a verified good dump of SMB (JU) & it freezes on the title screen on whatever emulator I use (FCEU/X/SP, Nestopia, NESten & for some reason Nintendulator has stopped working Undecided\).

Even already patched roms have this problem.

Is this game a Nesticle-era hack?
Most were written for a bad/pirate ROM that was commonly distributed at the time, distinguishable by a blank title screen.

Have you tried this tool yet?  It fixes the no-title-screen ROM. 
It probably wouldn't hurt to look for another SMB1 dump somewhere else.  I have played Wheelchair Mario before, so I know it can work.
