I have started a project to make a patch for this game. I am using WindHex and and a table provided here. The only problem is that when inserting the table into the actual ROM, the characters turn yellow. Why does it do that?

You don't insert the table into the ROM. You open the ROM with WindHex, then load the table. You are loading a table in Shift-JIS format, right? Press CTRL+D to switch to Unicode mode and Japanese characters will become visible.

Also, are you editing the ROM directly or have you extracted the files using ndstool or something of the sort?

I did CTRL+D but now the characters are so small I can't see them. Also yes I am editing the ROM directly. Don't worry it's a copy. I do have DSLazy and can unpack the contents of the copy ROM.

Smarter to unpack the ROM and edit the individual files. Then you're not limited by space. The repacker will stuff all the files back together and the game will still be able to read them even if they're different sizes.

Anyways, just open the text font selection dialog and hit "OK". The text will then be at a readable size. Don't panic; it's just one of WindHex's frustrating bugs.

Now I unpacked the files but now I have data, overlay, and others. What the hell is this?

What you're looking for should be somewhere in the data directory. Look around and you should be able to find something with a convenient label on it - "script", "scenario", "text", "dialog", something of that nature.

I found it. Now I am doing Relative Searches using this guide: http://akurasu.net/wiki/index.php?title=Super_Robot_Wars/W/Menus I plan on translating menus/pilots/units/series/items. Hopefully this will go well. Thanks man. At least you're not like the ones on IRC. Now I just need to match the values with the names. Oh and I noticed that you have to spell the names backwards.

There are at least 4 data files named: add01dat, add02dat, add03dat, and sound_data.sdat. Another thing is that I'm running relative searches but there's no results coming up. It could be somewhere else then?
