I remember seeing this months ago and YouTube just happened to be cool and put it in my suggested videos Tongue  Anyone know where a download of the hack might be?  It looks pretty nifty.

Looks cool.

You could try sending him a message, I am sure he would give you the information on it.

I would but the user doesn't seem very English-friendly.  It seemed like 90% of the comments left would be responded with a "thank-you" even when someone was asking a question, unless they were asking him in Japanese...  Tongue

I found something at http://ux.getuploader.com/ff5aki/&prev=_t&twu=1 that seems to fit the bill.

The current version is 1.40.
I don't know if you need any of the other files on that site, if the English patch will work with it, or if you need an un/headered rom.

PS
Are there any good programs to read Japanese formatted text files?

you can always open it in an internet browser and just set the encoding to Japanese

Oh thanks, that's a neat trick.

There is a headered and unheadered patch for FF5r.
Species seems to add new monster types and change current ones, I think it says it only works on the original rom and not FF5r.
cd_101 I believe adds on new dungeons, enemies, and items.  Don't know how extensively things are changed. I don't think this works with FF5r either.

There also seems to be a a hack for FF4 called FF4kai on the site, not really sure what that does.

I'm not an expert on FF4 differences, so the only real thing I noticed in the FF4kai was that the floating eyes were redrawn in a different style.  Then I got that rare Cockatrice summon item which I've never gotten before--that was sorta nifty Tongue  I played up until right before you get Tellah, and nothing too different popped up to me.

Thanks for finding this!  My brother started playing the FFVr and it's really cool so far, and I believe there's new items in the game too, so it's not only just enemies redone.  There should be some new music too.

EDIT:  I've trying the one you said the dungeon and stuff are also changed, and there doesn't seem to be anything different.  Later I'll download end-game saves and see if there's anything drastically different in either of the two hacks above.  And one of the files seems to be full of information on data offsets for FFV too Smiley

Can you even play FF5r in English? I never tried to use a rom since I had FFV for PS1 already.

I haven't tried, but since there's different text in the game from the original--at the very least for enemies--there would probably be some things messed up eventually.  In the least-bad scenario, there'd be gibberish in some places.

But I'll probably try it tomorrow and see what all it does.  In the first town they have a new sword listed which sells for 3000G--I think the first is a Broad Sword, but I'm just guessing from the few (like one or two) Kana I recognize in the word Tongue
