I really enjoyed Super Mario 64: the Missing Stars except for the bug that makes it unwinnable. And I saw a while back somebody was doing something about combining GoldenEye with Perfect Dark though I haven't played it. (I'm not big on console shooters) I'm kinda wondering if more N64 stuff is being worked on or if that's it for a while or what's going on. Is there ever going to be a 1.2 patch for Missing Stars? Also, I've seen on YouTube that people are swapping maps and textures between Zelda and Mario. I, for one, would really like to see a game based on that concept. Like, fill Zelda maps with goombas pipes and question mark boxes and have Mario run through them or have Link dungeon crawl his way through Peach's castle and various Mario levels. I think that would be really fun to play through, visiting familiar spaces in a new context. Is anybody building anything like that or might they? That would be the awesomest Mario hack ever

I remember a halo map being koriki village(I spelled that wrong) and that was fun as hell. But thats off topic. I would love to see more work happening on n64 emulation. Really n64 is the only old console that I suggest buying with a flashcart over emulating.

So they have flashcarts for the N64? Hmm... But I do like having all my games on as little consoles as possible (preferably, all on handhelds). Still, might look into it; I really did like the N64 controller, people just didn't know how you could use it efficiently enough- plus, the whole push for 3D games. :/

I happened upon a hires texture pack for OoT a little while ago. No idea what it does or if it's worthwhile.
Is that new version of PJ64 still in the works?

Hi-res texture packs just display higher-res textures. So they look like there's a ton more detail. But also, it's a means of loading different textures--there's a bunch of cel-shaded texture packs for the two Zelda games on N64 now. In my opinion, they're awesome--the game feels like Wind Waker.
It's a means to get a better looking game without updating the polygon count. Which, is actually usually fairly good most of the time.

I've seen a few that actually change OoT into some sort of Black and White thing there. It looked nice in the screenshot. Also, DaedalusX64 for PSP updates practically get spewed out everyday. I'll try the newest revision today, but I'm not going to hold my breath too much, although the emulator's gone far.

Yeah I update my DaedalusX64 every week. Often I won't even have had time to try anything in it before a new revision comes out. Release early, release often, that's the way to run a project like that. Good for them. But I was thinking more like rom hacks of n64 games. I don't think I'd better try the hi-rez texture packs since I play with DaedalusX64 on the PSP and that would probably slow it down significantly but they sound cool.

Honestly, I wish they'd release a really meaningful release rather than a trillion revisions (mini releases).

Well, ideally there'd be a beta channel for people like me who like to be on the bleeding edge and try out new stuff as soon as it's done and an alpha channel for people like you who only want to bother updating when there's a major major change. But you never know when you're going to be run over by a bus so it makes sense to do some kind of release as often as possible I say.

I do not want to live in your neighborhood, and I live in a pretty dangerous city (although in a good part of it, but I've lived in the bad too).

That bug on "The Missing Stars" only happens on Daedalusx64 AFAIK. Tried to work on it using a crash report, but maybe I missed something. It's hard for me to work on it since I don't have a PSP to test it. You could send me a crash report (with complete register dumping, PC counter, etc) on that "fixed" version I released and if I find some time I may try to work on it again. Someone also reported that some random bug may prevent the ending sequnece to be completed sometimes (not sure the cause). Other than that, it can be completed in pretty much any N64 emulator. I have released some tools which make hacking SM64 now very easy (if you are good in 3D modelling), some people are working on full hacks but so far nothing got released yet. Sadly, there are very few people interested in those it seems. You can find those as well as other Mario 64 hacks in my YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/user/frauber. There are also very good hacking tools and resources for Zelda64, but also not many people interested in modelling maps for it. A lot is happening also in GoldenEye/Perfect Dark as always, there are map viewers for Banjo games and even a Star Fox 64 editor is being worked on by xdaniel. On a sad note, it seems that the Dextrose forum is now down and I can't to seem to find any archive of it.

Yeah, the Zelda's are being worked on - I can't really say anything about full hacks being done there, tho, besides maybe Zelda's Birthday and one or two others that are (supposedly?) in progress. Tool-wise, spinout's Wavefront .obj importer, our map viewer and editor OZMAV2 as well as SM64toZ64 (ports levels from Mario 64 to OoT) are some that have been released or are being worked on recently. As for documentation, http://wiki.spinout182.com/index.php?title=Main_Page is probably the place to go to (don't know any other place like it, anyway). Some pages are outdated, but it's still quite an archive of information. Also, as messiaen mentioned, I've been hacking Star Fox 64 for a while, figuring out some of its level data format - well, at least enough to make a level viewer and edit levels in a hex editor (proper editor coming someday, OZMAV2's getting the "turning into editor" treatment currently ). However, there's still a way to go until it's as editable as, say, Mario 64 or even the Zelda games, thus there's also no real full hacks of it yet. There's some more information at http://code.google.com/p/ozmav/ , both as documentation, as well as code (see sf64toolkit).
