I've read through a lot of the information around here and on other sites, and was able to find/extract the script files from the DS game I'm working to translate (Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Ore ga Boss: Saikyou Family Taisen), but the script is stored in *.blt files - which I honestly have no idea how to access. Changing the files to *.txt and opening them in Word/Notepad only results in gobblety gook, even with all the proper language settings to display Japanese characters.

I've noticed that quite a few of the more recent DS games also use *.blt for script files, so does anyone know if there's a program capable of reading them or have any other information on the file type? Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried opening them in a hex editor?

Yep. I have a table set up that works, since I've tested it on other games, but no luck with this filetype.

It might be easier if you'd provide a link to the file so that someone could analyze it.

...What games? Tables generally differ from game to game.

Not if the script is stored in SJIS format. Then a generic SJIS table would work. AFAIK, some DS games store their script in SJIS format.

Didn't realize that. I guess it's a possibility.

All the DS games I've looked at use SJIS.

Final Fantasy IV didn't. I know there were others I looked at that didn't too. It is common, though.

This one uses SJIS, so I'm good there.

As for an example of what I'm talking about, here's  one of the .blt files extracted from the game. I've found that some of the script (character names, commonly-used phrases, place names) are in the main portion of the game, but most of the actual dialogue seems to be in these .blt files, and the game calls them up to access it.
