I was curious if anyone had any techniques/ideas on how to go about graphics editing with limited palettes, short of working pixel-wise. Especially where you need an anti-aliased look.

For example:

This needs to be changed to read "Elfir"


in this context


Its limited to 16 colours which are in the bitmap.

After fiddling with Photoshop and having it convert down to the 16 colours, this is what I came up with:



Needless to say, what looked okay in the PSD originally got kinda butchered after conversion.

I've found Paint Shop Pro much easier to use for this than Photoshop, try and find version 8 if you can, it runs faster than the newer versions.
