Hi
I've downloaded the translation for this site.
When I try and open the translation I get a Nestopia Error - Invalid File
I got the FF2J translation and I've played that all the way through. That was the mainstream translation (NeoDemiforce) the same as the one on this site is the mainstream translation for 3. However, the one I got for 2 worked no problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I don't follow.
I know what a patch this. This one just doesn't seem to work the same way as my FF2J patch (or work at all for that matter)

Dwedit, can you ever be anything other than a complete asshole to everyone? The dude clearly knows what a patch is.
lmiddleham, does the error happen with the unpatched ROM? The first thing you should do is make a copy of the ROM and hard-patch it with IPSWin or Lunar IPS, that way we know whether it's a problem with the ROM/patch or if you're doing something wrong with the soft-patch. Try that out and let us know what happens.
Also if you have any problems in the future, you should consider posting on the Newbie Board, so that a bunch of nerds don't get all sniffy and pitch a fit at you.

Agreed.

The only I can think of possibly happening then is if his ROM is one of those with a VIMM ad tagged on the end. No idea if they've since been deleted from the GoodNES set (and in turn deleted from the majority of ROM sites) (Vimm maintained an old ROM site, and tagging the ROMs was a well-intentioned leecher-deterrent tactic) The only other one I know of is that one patch that expands the ROM to 1MB. Which isn't hardware accurate and as a result Nesticle is the only well-known emulator that will play it. It's not archived here, is it worth submitting (I've forgotten the author's name and it doesn't seem to be anywhere in the patch/readme, possibly submit as "unknown author")? It's said to be complete and it does look nice, even if it requires a seriously outdated emu to play it.

Thanks for replies - found an already translated version now so haven't had to use it.

That's another option! I'm surprised most people with patching problems don't do that. Also I got warned by RHDN admin for what I said, so I hope you appreciate it! Again, don't hesitate to ask any other questions you have on the Newbie Board, where people are actually helpful. The only other one I know of is that one patch that expands the ROM to 1MB. It's said to be complete and it does look nice, even if it requires a seriously outdated emu to play it. Andrew Church is the author's name, and he translated it single-handedly as far as I know. VirtuaNES is a great emulator and will play it no problem.

I've always wondered how hard it would be to correct that translation and getting it running on the actual hardware. My patience for hacking has gone to damn near non-existent over the past year or so, so even if I might have the skill to do it now (doubt it), I won't. Still, I'd love to see someone give it a shot.

Well, we've got FF hacks like Final Fantasy++ going on, where the author is revamping the entire game from the ground up, it seems. So I wouldn't be surprised if it can be done. ~DS

op: was your patch the one that made the rom 1mb and therefore it wouldn't work on most emulators? I had that working once, but forgot which emulator I used (it was on PSP though.)

The patch that makes it 1MB will still boot on most emulators. It will just make the game stop on a screen telling you the patched game is not compatible with that emulator.
