How do I change the title screen on the PSX version of Chrono Trigger so that it says "hax0red by Pattywick" somewhere? I want to do this in case some assholes try to sell my hack on eBay or something.

You'll probably have to find the image of the title screen and add what you want onto it.

But the CD contains several files and folders. Which one is it in? It it compressed? What kind of compression?

If you cannot find out the answers for yourself, I don't think ROM hacking is for you.

Download PSXMC and see if you can have the program locate the image file (probably a TIM).  If not then the title screen is probably located in either the ROM file included with the game or a separate data file compressed with the usual Square compression scheme(s).  I don't have this disc any more since I sold it on ebay so I cannot help you look.  Dragonsbrethren might be able to help you.

Either post something informative or don't post at all.  I hate it when people like you come in to a topic from a newbie to ROM hacking and post this such drivel.

Everyone started out being a noob, get off your soapbox and maybe try to help the person?

Thanks for the real help, JCE3000GT.

As for ROMhacking "not being for me", I've been doing this shit for 4 years now.

I'll check my ISO later tonight. I'm hoping it's as something as simple as a .TIM file.

FYI, this site is RHDN, not GameFAQs Answers.

I think I've found the logo and title .TIM files, and I was able to view them with this.

I only hope editing and reinserting isn't a pain in the ass, with the whole "new file needs to be the same size as the old file or the ISO gets fucked up" deal.

As long as the header and file size stay intact, you can pretty much mess around with it to your heart's content.

I think he's mainly done SNES (and NES?) hacking and just recently branched out into PSX hacking.

If he mostly does old school stuff, not making things larger when you edit them ought to be old hat. I mean, how many people bother expanding ROMs? Most people just make things fit, one way or another.

If you don't even know PSX image are store in TIM format (the most common...) And you're wondering about the Iso size...
Excuse me but i'm just sceptic...

Not all games store graphics in TIM. Example: The Tomb Raider games stores it's textures in RAW format.

Also, where did I say I was wondering about ISO size? My concern was that if you reinsert a file into the PSX ISO and it isn't the same size as the original, it fucks it up.

Otherwise, if you can't contribute something productive to someone who needs help, then kindly shut the fuck up. It's funny how you act like some elitist when I see that you haven't produced any ROMhacks in your profile.

What I did for Gran Turismo 2 back in the day when I was editing PSX games was just do the old fashioned hex editor copy paste and null the remaining bytes if the file was smaller.  However if the file was bigger...no idea how to solve that.

Somewhere I found a TIM file plugin for Photoshop seveal years ago--wish I would of kept it.  lol  Sorry.  Maybe try to google it?
