I kind of lol'ed when I played FF1 and FF2 for PSP and saw that the font they used was the default Mac Japanese font (I'm not sure what it's called).

There's nothing particularly wrong with ...iru's font, it's nice and readable, maybe that's why it gets used a lot.

(The only other reference I've seen to ...iru is on nicovideo, but it seems to be considered a クソゲー (shitty game) there)

It’s not quite the same. Sure as hell isn’t any font on my machine.

You're right, I think I meant to say the meiryo font from Vista/7, but it could be slightly different from that as well.

Meiryo is closer (e.g. compresses the top strokes of 車 in 軍) but has more swish to the kana strokes. I honestly don’t know what typeface it is, but it does strike me as generic (and dare I say, unaesthetic in certain aspects).
