Do you guys here know of any good level editors for Super Mario Brothers for which I can use all the graphics and tilesets of the SMB1 or SMB2J ROMs, as well as being able to use characters from other Nintendo NES ROMs such as Donkey Kong and Mario Bros.?

SMB Special featured characters from two older Mario franchises, which are the barrels and the hammer (the weapon Mario used to smash the barrels) from Donkey Kong, and from Mario Bros., there were Shellcreepers (crabs) and Fighter Flies.

I don't want to use a level editors which apply to a single game only; I want to use a level editor for which I can use multiple game ROMs.

The NEC PC-8801 and the Sharp X1, the two official ports for which Super Mario Bros. Special was released for, both have their own screen different resolutions: it's 640x200 for the PC-8801 w/ colored graphics (640x400 if monochrome), while the X1 has 320x200 rez. The Nintendo FamiCom/NES has 256x224 rez, for which the Sharp X1's rez is closer to.

Thank you,

Ben Edge
