Hi I have this utility that will help me hack Megaman 1 for the NES. Its called Rock And Roll v1.1 ~ The megaman Editor. every time i open the ROM it says "Please Select a Valid file." I Chose Mega Man (U).nes as the ROM and i Chose the "Open with Data File" Mega Man (U).ini. And it Still says Please select a Valid file. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thank You.

The hint is in the message. It's probably looking for a file with a particular extension, which is why you want to RTFM here.

Yes it does. On the Read-Me I checked out How to Use Rock and Roll. It says "Read the compiled help document for information on how to use the program." And i cant Find the Help Document. -_-

'RTFM' is useless advice. The readme mentions nothing of this.
I tried the editor out with the plain (U) ROM and it worked fine. I even tried opening a different file and didn't get a "please select a valid file" error message, so I don't know what could be going wrong. I even tried removing the data file and every other thing I could to reproduce this error and came up with nothing.
Can you take a screenshot of the error you're getting?

I'm not sure if this will help you with your problem but at least there is a link to the help file you referred to earlier http://romhacks.googlepages.com/rockandroll.

Hrm, yeah that is very strange. Don't know what could be causing it though... I can't seem to reproduce that no matter what I try.
Is that Vista? Only thing I can think of is some kind of Vista compatibility problem. That's a total guess though.

Maybe it doesn't work on 64-bit Vista, which IIRC you said you were running in that thread your account got deleted for.

It's actually a strange bug in the file system components that Rock and Roll uses. I think the problem might be when someone has the 'Hide File Extensions' option turned on in Windows Explorer, they don't seem to see an extension on the file, so the file technically doesn't exist. (If you notice in the error screen grab, the file has no extension)
The only solution I know is to open the ROM a different way, not using the Open ROM dialog. (dragging the ROM onto the Rock and Roll window from Windows Explorer should do the trick)
