First of all, I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I didn't see a help forum (except for the forum help one), so if this is in the wrong forum I'd appreciate it if a mod/admin would move it to the correct forum.

Anyways, I've been playing some old SNES games recently, and I stumbled upon a hack for the original Metroid, and thought, "Hey, I should try making a hack for Super Metroid!", so now I'm trying to do that.

I've been reading some stuff on romhacks.net (I did a search on this forum and found a link to it) and I think I understand the basics of the hexadecimal system and tablefiles, but what I've learned doesn't seem to help me with I want to do... What I want to do is change how the levels are set up... I don't know how to describe it, but I want to do what happens in a SMW hack with edited levels... If you know what I mean...

Well, anyways, I'd like to know how I can do that... I have Tile Layer Pro, Hexecute and Windhex, as well as a Super Metroid rom and an SNES emulator... is there anything else I need?

Thanks in advance.

http://www.romhacking.net/utils/275/ might be just what you're looking for if you want a level editor.

Edit: http://jathys.zophar.net/supermetroid/index.html seems to have a newer version (1.23 instead of 1.0). So it's probably a better idea to get that instead. Until RHDN uploaded the newest version.

actually, 1.23 seems to have some bugs with the PLM editor, so you might want to keep a copy of 1.0 handy.
