CDMage doesn't let me import files that are larger than the original. The only thing CDmage can do is overwrite an existing file with another equal or smaller one.
It does when you update the file entry in the Toc.

Using MagicISO didn't work for me either, the game wont boot even if I replace the file with the same file and do no modifications.
Forget that stuff. It ALWAYS fails, no matter what you do.

That's why I'd like to know what program you use.
I have a custom program for file reinsertion. It's some kind of CD Mage dos clone. I also have an isolib I made by myself to implement file injection directly into a text inserter or any other kind of program related to hacking (see: ToP patcher).

Ok thanks for clearing it up. I just wish there was something like UMDGen, but for PSX. Inserting files into PSP ISOs is a piece of cake thanks to UMDGen. It would be nice if an equivalent to UMDGen existed for PSX. (for noobs like me).

Yeah, unfortunately there is nothing that easy to use. >_> But even if there was a program like that, it would be incompatible with those games not using at all a standard Toc. :/

thanks for all the replies guys, the information has been very useful.
While I love the Saturn and find that it has a plethora of great Japanese games that would make great translation projects
(thanks to that idiot Bernie Stolar who killed the Saturn and Sega itself)..
I think I may lean towards the PS1 simply because there's more documents and people experienced with it that could
be of great assistance.  I've tried contacting the SF3 guys, whom I believe are the only ones who actually completed
a Saturn translation, but no replies yet Sad

however one thing I'm wondering about people doing PS1 hacking/translation is the file itself.  There's probably dozens of
different rips that all vary in size and quality.  could one patch be applied to other "rips"?

To the best of my knowledge, it seems that only the PCE-CD community has made real efforts in standardizing the file sizes
and TOC.
